Why give to Family Connections?

“When we had my first son, we didn’t have the resources to pay for a preschool. Without Family Connections, my son would have been at home with me.”
—Margarita Herrera, Family Connections mother or two children 8 and 2.5 years old

Family Connections fills an important need in the San Mateo County community by providing a quality preschool and parent education program that is 100% accessible to low-income families. Family Connections has had a history of responding to this need with a unique tuition-free school that sets us apart from many similar preschool and parenting organizations in the Bay Area and even in the State. We have reached over 1000 families in the San Mateo area since our beginning in 1993.

You can help Family Connections by:

Making a cash donation:

While many larger non-profit organizations have administrative and marketing expenses, 90% of Family Connections funds go right to the classroom curriculum, materials, and education. Donating to Family Connections will directly affect low income families in Redwood City, Menlo Park and East Palo Alto.

Donating Stock:

Donating through stock often provides a substantial tax savings for you and provides a significant contribution to Family Connections. Contact Lynette York at (650) 610-0823 for help making a stock donation.

Donating your used car to support Family Connections:

We are very pleased to be part of the vehicle donation program of Auction City, located in Redwood City. Auction City has offered used vehicles for sale to the public for over 15 years. You can support Family Connections by donating your used vehicle. Go to Vehicles for Charity and complete the online form, making sure that you choose Family Connections as the recipient. The rest is easy. Auction City will arrange for pickup of your car and will sell it for you. You will receive a receipt for a tax deductible donation. And Family Connections will receive a portion of the sales price!

Volunteering:

Picture yourself walking into a classroom full of families - parents and their children singing, talking, playing, making art - learning together. This is the community at Family Connections and as one volunteer summed it up after a recent visit, "You can just feel the love in that room."

The volunteer experience at Family Connections is definitely a two way street. The impact our one hundred plus volunteers have on Family Connections is felt in so many ways. Volunteers have allowed us to reach far into the communities of San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties and have helped Family Connections thrive and grow over the past ten years.

Donating an Item from our Wish List:

Family Connections has many ongoing needs. Visit our Donate Items page to discover in-kind donations needed. Or visit our Classroom Wish List on Amazon.com to see a list of things we need for the upcoming school term.

Supporting Our Fundraisers:

Over 100 volunteers organize and help at major Family Connections fundraisers. Because these fundraisers are volunteer driven, almost every dollar earned at these events goes directly toward supporting our classroom locations and activities.

To see and experience what we’re doing firsthand, we invite you to tour our facilities and meet with our staff. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Debbie Denton at (650) 369-6467 or ddenton@familyconnections.org, to make an appointment.

“I love attending Family Connections’ family night. I try to get as much information as possible to take home to help myself and even network with my family and friends if they need support too.”

Julie Brown, mother of 8 children
